Siyona is a high school student in New Jersey committed to working for gender equity and justice. Siyona started her work in this field in middle school as a leader of the Girls Education Fund, where they contributed to various initiatives such as the Malala Fund and donated 600+ books to the Kadika Girls Secondary School in Kenya. Entering high school, Siyona was accepted to the Model UN (MUN) team and argued as part of the Commission on the Status of Women, representing countries across the board. Throughout her time on the MUN team, she began to understand different countries’ policies on women’s rights, the reasons for those policies, and how they worked together to develop a resolution. In addition to MUN, Siyona combined her knowledge of women’s issues with writing: she is a writer for the Princeton Foundation Blog and The Flow, Duke’s reproductive health magazine. She was also elected president of the women’s empowerment group at her high school, POWER, where she organizes period packing drives, all-school presentations, and weekly meetings on women’s empowerment. Siyona also volunteers as a youth at the Trinitas hospital, working in the Emergency room, Dialysis unit, and Maternal health sector, and as a youth volunteer in Pediatrics at the Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. Her interests since middle school in causes for gender equity and social justice inspired her to start her own organization, RightfullyHers (RH), in 2021, where multiple youth volunteers partner with different organizations to help promote women’s health, education, and empowerment.
