RightfullyHers’ founder, Siyona Bordia, attended the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNECOSOC) Youth Forum from April 16th to April 18th, 2024 as a nominated youth delegate representing RightfullyHers. She recounts the experience as follows:
“The UNECOSOC experience was truly unique and transformative as I met several people across the globe who were interested in our mission to promote various UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) 3,4 and 5, such as Good Health, Quality Education and Gender Equality. I shared our work with various attendees and learned more about exciting work being done in other parts of the world. For example, I connected with a woman named Sarah Baharaki, from Afghanistan, who gave the welcome address for the conference. Her goals for Afghan girls’ education and dedication embodied the spirit of RightfullyHers, and we hope to work together in the future. Furthermore, my interactions with several youth delegates there, one of whom helped distribute microloans to women in third-world areas and another who assisted women with anemia, a Harvard Human Rights law student and a Yale public health student were enlightening. As a panelist at sessions, I discussed the need for more representation in public policy and initiatives for women who are victims of abuse or trafficking and shared our initiatives and vision for maternal health and abuse victims. Several fellow attendees showed tremendous interest and enthusiasm for the work RH is doing. RightfullyHers cannot wait to continue connecting with these people and widening its impact worldwide!”
