16 Oct Empowering Moms: Our Breastfeeding Kits Drive and Kit Assembly Event July to October 2023
We’re excited to share our journey of organizing a Breastfeeding Kits Drive in our community and our recent kit assembly event. Breastfeeding is essential for both the health of babies and mothers, and we wanted to contribute to this important cause.
Why Breastfeed:
Breastfeeding provides numerous health benefits for babies, including essential nutrients and a strong immune system. It’s also very cost-effective as compared to formula feeding. However, not all moms have access to the necessary supplies for successful breastfeeding, hence we collaborated with Trinitas maternal health clinic to raise funds for breastfeeding kits to encourage new mothers to breastfeed. The kits were designed after receiving feedback from Trinitas maternal clinic healthcare providers as also in the last two years
The Drive:
We spread the word through social media and local newsletters, encouraging people to donate funds and also set up fundraising tables at events like the Sanskriti Fest raising money from services like face painting and arts and crafts by our team of volunteers
The response from our community was overwhelming. We were inspired by this and raised sufficient funds to assemble kits for 100 women as also in previous years 2021 and 2022
Kit Assembly Day:
Once we collected enough items, we organized a kit assembly day. Volunteers, including students, gathered to put together the breastfeeding kits. Here’s what we included in each kit:
1. Reusable Nursing Pads
2. Nipple Cream
3. Breastfeeding Guides
4. Burping Cloths
5. Hand Sanitizer
Assembling the kits was a heartwarming experience. It felt like putting together care packages for our own community, knowing that these kits would make a real difference in the lives of new mothers.
Distribution and Impact:
We have partnered with local healthcare providers to ensure that the kits reach mothers in need. Our Breastfeeding Kits Drive and Kit Assembly event taught us that even as students, we can make a significant impact on our community. It also reminded us of the importance of empathy, and giving back. We hope our experience inspires you to initiate similar projects in your own communities. Together, we can all make a difference!
